Mission:Sometimes, the challenge of life can seem overwhelming. At times like this, it helps to speak with someone who will really listen-someone who can help you sort through your problems and questions, and help you find the answers. You can get that support and help at the Adolescent and Family Counseling Center.
Treatment Description:Provide a broad rand of health, mental health and education services through individual, couples, family and group therapy.
Staff:Licensed clinical social workers, array of consultants.
Services Offered:Psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, alcohol and drug abuse counseling, sexual abuse, counseling, medication evaluation-prescriptions and monitoring, divorce counseling, psychiatric evaluations, educational enrichment and remedial tutoring, career and vocational counseling and testing, college placement counseling, educational and psychological assessments, family mediation, support groups, medical social work, weight and wellness counseling.
Payment Method:Accepts major medical insurance, are designated providers of most HMO and PPO plans. Willing to discuss fees and make financial arrangements when necessary.

Mission:To provide treatment to individuals with substance use problems with an emphasis on traditionally underserved populations.
Treatment Description:Long-term residential program (voluntary-no locked doors) for youth with drug or alcohol problems and related behavioral difficulties including problems with the law. Utilizes a therapeutic community self-help model integrated with professional and clinical services. On-site state licensed high school and special education program (COPE). Encourages a return to the community as productive drug-free citizens.
Origin:Founded in 1970 it is one of the oldest most successful substance abuse programs in CT. It has earned a reputation for excellence in addiction and treatment.
Staff:Staff hold credentials including CADC. MSW, Family Therapist (BFT, MFT), LPN, RN, and PhD. Teachers and administrators are state certified.
Services Offered:18 month residential program for males and females ages 14-19. Medical, psychiatric, psychological, special education, vocational counseling, recreation. Full school program, individual, group and family therapy.
Payment Method:SAGA, Medicaid, some private insurance, Sliding scale based on income available for self-pay individuals.
Referral Method:Most referred by Department of Children and Families or Court Support Services Division.

Mission:To provide accessible, community based mental health services for the behaviorally and physical well-being of children, adolescents and their families. To promote research and raising awareness in the community of child and family mental health.
Treatment Description:Community based program serves youth identified as at risk for addiction. Emphasizes work with the child and his/her family, utilization of community resources, self-help groups, and education to achieve the goal of total abstinence from drugs and alcohol. Diagnostic and treatment services available for children and adolescents who are actively using drugs and/or alcohol and for those already in recovery.
Origin:Established in 1913 as the first outpatient mental health clinic in the nation after Clifford Beers spent time in a mental institution after a failed suicide attempt. He suffered from sever depression and paranoia, wrote a book about conditions of institutions and dedicated his life to reforming mental health issues.
Staff:Psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, consulting pediatrician, nurse clinician, and bachelor level counselors.
Services Offered:The Clinic provides services to fight violence against children and violence by children, sexual abuse, teenage suicide, drug use, homelessness, and the impact of HIV/AIDS on children and families.

Treatment Description:Mental health and organizational consultation to school, social services and mental health agencies, cultural diversity and sensitivity training for providers. Building effective leadership among service providers and school personnel. Advocacy for at-risk children, parents and families.
Origin:The professional staff at The Consultation Center have been providing services and conducting research for over twenty-five years.
Staff:Draw on the multiple perspectives of psychology, social work, education, psychiatry, public health, and administration. Staff assume a variety of roles including consultant, trainer, researcher, prevention specialist, facilitator, and evaluator.

Mission:To address issues regarding alcohol and other drug involvement. Through prevention, education, assessment, intervention and/or counseling services.
Treatment Description:Services offered to students interested in addressing substance abuse issues. They may be concerned about their own drug use, a friend or loved ones involvement, dealing with the temptation to become involve, returning back to school from treatment and staying clean. SAC will work closely with families s concerned about these issues. All contacts with students remain confidential.
Staff:Professional staff dedicated to reaching out to the needs of Guilford youth. Staff collaborates with family members, police, school and community personnel to develop appropriate counseling.
Referral Method:Anyone can refer requests to talk with a Student Assistance Counselor. Students can refer themselves, parents, police, coaches, teachers and peers can recommend that SAC meet with a particular student.

Treatment Description:Exposed to learning how to handle difficulty with identifying and changing negative cycles and self-defeating behavior, need for communications skills, displaced anger and blame, establishing group cohesiveness, demands of parenthood at a young age, family conflicts/poor relationships with parents, periodic struggles with hopelessness, frustration, helplessness, impairment in social skills including reliance on aggressive, hostile or sarcastic behavior vs. assertive and supportive behavior towards others.
Origin:Founded in 1972 as a community response to the devastation being wrought on families and communities from the problems of abuse, dependency, addiction, crime and neglect. One of CT's first agencies to initiate community based treatment programs. The High Risk Youth Program began in 1992.
Staff:Over 400 staff (employees, volunteers, contracted professionals).
Services Offered:Individual, group therapy. Provides opportunities for its clients to have a chance to include in their lives the learning of new and different behaviors which they may use to help them start toward a life of potential that includes their being active, constructive citizens in a caring community. Mission:Substance abuse is a common clinical expression of various types and degrees of psychological dysfunction. To provide individualized outpatient treatment services to men and women with primary substance abuse problems and support services to their family members, so as to enable patients to achieve drug free lifestyles.
Treatment Description:Young Adult Group- Engages in activities to expose population to positive peer support and exposes them to leisure activities that are age appropriate and fosters a sober lifestyle. Clinic is comprised of 3 treatment components: Evaluation unit, providing revaluation and referral for patients seeking substance abuse treatment, Brief treatment unit, providing outpatient treatment for patients with any drug of abuse who can be seen in a drug free setting, using pharmacological and psychotherapy interventions, Naltrexone program for opiate dependent patients who are appropriate for short term opiate blocking treatment.
Origin:CMHC opened in 1966 as part of a new vision to treat people with mental illness in their communities to provide a place for researchers from many fields to find new treatments, and to teach professional in the care of mental illness.
Staff:Treatment provided within a multi-disciplinary team representing psychiatry, psychology, nursing, social work, and rehabilitation counseling to insure that treatment plans incorporate a broad spectrum of services addressing the multiple needs of patients.
Services Offered:Outpatient evaluation, referral and treatment to patients who are experiencing problems with alcohol, marijuana, cocaine or opiates and can be treated in an outpatient setting. Individualized treatment services include individual, group and family therapies. Young Adult Group for young adults 17-24 (exceptions for 16 year olds).

Treatment Description:INPATIENT: 14 bed acute care unit (co-ed). Comprehensive and multidisciplinary biopychosocial evaluation. Psychological and brief neuropsychological assessment, psychopharmacologic evaluation and management, crisis-oriented intensive family therapy, individual therapy. Consultation to schools and residential programs, case management and collaboration with each adolescents school, outpatient clinicians, family and other community agencies to facilitate an integrated approach to establish comprehensive transition plans.
Treatment Description:OUTPATIENT: Cognitive behavioral skill building group therapies that focus on feelings management, problem solving and social skills Group psychotherapy, intensive family therapy, therapy to help with effective management of behavioral, emotional and substance abuse problems, skill teaching to increase tolerance and regulation of feelings and interpersonal problems, case management, medication consultation.
Origin:Established in June 2000 when Yale-New Haven Hospital acquired the assets of the former Yale Psychiatric Institute.

Youth Center for Change

Mission:To provide structured programming and service in a safe, secure environment that promotes skill development and opportunities for at risk youth.
Treatment Description:It is a cognitive behavior based program which stresses peer support and peer guidance to help clients accept their responsibility for and the consequences of their behavior and choices. Works on point system. The point system was designed to assess daily performance and to administer rapid positive reinforcement for appropriate behavior. The higher the level the more program privileges are granted. Individualized treatment, educational/vocational and development goals are identified and closely monitored by case manager.
Origin:YCC is an early intervention alternative to incarceration program for male offenders, age 16-21, who stand to benefit from a highly structured environment and the reinforcement of positive behavior.
Staff:Case Managers, Recreation Coordinator, Community Service Coordinator, Education coordinator, Human Service Workers, state certified teachers.
Services Offered:The program provides alternating days of work and treatment including education and vocational training, staff escorted community service work, drug education and treatment, and a physical and wellness program. Family therapy is offered once a week.
Referral Method:Referrals are accepted form Adult Probation Offices statewide on a case-by-case basis as authorized by the Court Support Service Divisions assigned monitor.
